THE ULTIMATE GUIDE FOR ADVENTUROUS COUPLES

Eloping doesn’t always mean running off to Vegas on a whim—it’s about creating an intimate, meaningful, and stress-free wedding experience that’s true to you and your partner. Whether you dream of saying your vows on a mountaintop, barefoot on the beach, or in a cozy Airbnb with just your closest loved ones, eloping gives you the freedom to ditch tradition and do things your way.
If you’re considering an elopement, here’s everything you need to know to plan a day that feels just as magical as your love story.
1.DECIDE WHAT ELOPING MEANS TO YOU
Eloping doesn’t have to mean “just the two of you” (unless you want it to!). You can invite your closest family and friends, incorporate personal traditions, or even have a full-day adventure with a photographer capturing every moment. Think about what kind of experience feels right for you and your partner.
2.CHOOSE YOUR DREAM LOCATION
Your elopement can happen anywhere—on a cliffside at sunrise, in a national park, at city hall, or even in your backyard. Consider factors like weather, accessibility, permits, and how the location makes you feel.
Some popular elopement destinations include:
National Parks – Yosemite, Glacier, and Joshua Tree are top picks for epic scenery.
Beaches – The Oregon coast, Big Sur, or Hawaii for a relaxed, romantic vibe.
Urban Elopements – City skylines, botanical gardens, or the County Courthouse.
International Elopements – Iceland, Italy, and Scotland offer breathtaking landscapes.
3.HIRE A PHOTOGRAPHER THAT YOU LOVE AND TRUST
Since elopements are intimate and often take place in remote or adventurous locations, your photographer will be more than just someone who takes pictures—they’ll help guide you through the day, scout the perfect spots, and capture the emotion of every moment. Because of this, I collaborate with each couple to help them plan their dream elopement with ease.
4.PLAN THE LOGISTICS
Marriage License — Research the legal requirements for your chosen location. Some states/countries have waiting periods or residency rules.
Permits — If you’re eloping in a national park or public land, you may need a permit. Additionally, photography permits are sometimes required as well. As your photographer, I make sure to research the requirements so that you don’t have to worry about it!
Officiant & Witnesses — Some places require an officiant and witnesses, while others allow self-solemnization. You can even have a friend officiate with an online ordination. In many states, your photographer can also officiate and/or witness, and I am more than happy to do that for you!
5.MAKE IT MEANINGFUL
Just because you’re eloping doesn’t mean you have to skip the special details. Think about ways to make your elopement personal and memorable:
Write your own vows.
Wear a dress or outfit that makes you feel incredible.
Incorporate a first look or a private post-ceremony picnic.
Bring sentimental items like a family heirloom or handwritten letters from loved ones.
Plan a celebration afterward—whether it’s an intimate dinner or a big party later on.
BE PRESENT & ENJOY EVERY MOMENT
Elopements are about stripping away the pressure and focusing on what truly matters—your love and commitment. Let go of expectations, embrace spontaneity, and soak up every second of your special day!
